Smiling past heartache

We never really know what is going on in someone’s life. We see them smile, laugh, joke around, but we don’t see that their heart is broken.

One of my employees is an amazing example of making the most of each day in spite of the hard knocks in life. Every time I see him he is smiling, he is personable, he is a bright spirit. Our customers never have a compliant, but they do have many compliments. He’s a wonderful employee.

The pain this young man is experiencing would break the average person. Within the past few months he has lost his uncle, his brother was almost murdered, his grandmother’s house burned down then she had a stroke and has been placed on hospice, and his mother is in a nursing home. With all of this going on in his life he could feel sorry for himself or be angry at the world. Instead, he wakes up every morning feeling blessed for being alive and takes on the day’s challenges with a smile. His positive attitude is contagious and he truly is an inspiration.

He puts things into perspective. Be thankful for the blessings you do have, accept that there are things that can bring you to your knees, but don’t allow the negatives to take control of your life.

Grief can overwhelm us. The pain can be so powerful that we get lost in the heartache. But we can also give our pain to God and He will help us move forward.

One day this week the employee and I were talking and I just wanted him to know that he was an inspiration to me. He was so humble. I feel blessed that I’ve met him. He has shown me that God is around us, we just have to believe.

God bless, and be blessed.

The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit. Psalm 34:18
